The Good Ones Has A Bandcamp

Just set up a Bandcamp for The Good Ones, where I’ll be posting a new batch of demos. Last time we posted any Good Ones stuff was when we posted the Japanese Grandmother demo as a digital single. Anyway, check it out – there are already 2 demos posted as free downloads, and more coming in the next few weeks. If you’re in the mood for some cheeky power-pop from the southwest, you’re in luck!

Epic jam-smiths Fang Island have compiled a playlist of their top songs to high-five to, and it’s worth a listen. Includes the theme to Perfect Strangers, “1st of Tha Month” by Bone Thugs, and a bunch of crazy prog-rock.

Zola Jesus: Night

Another lovely, moody epic along the lines of Zambri’s “W/ Somebody.” It’s from Zola Jesus’ forthcoming Stridulum EP, and if the rest of the EP is on par with this gem I can’t wait to hear it.

Read more about it or download at Pitchfork.com.

Listening to Fang Island’s new LP (and their previous LP immediately afterwards) just exploded my brain. I really can’t find the words, although apparently the band describes their sound as “everyone high-fiving everyone.” Just watch this.

What the hell are they putting in the water over in Brooklyn? They are just exploding with fantastic rock ‘n’ roll bands right now.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This song is a MONSTER JAM, and it deserves to positively steamroll the world. I don’t listen to “modern rock” radio anymore, but I certainly hope they’re playing this song. Are they playing this song?

Anyway, in an effort to draw attention to this beast of a song, Vampire Weekend went all out with cameos in the video. RZA, a Jonas Brother, Jake Gyllenhaal and even Lil Jon show up here. I’m happiest about the Lil Jon appearance, as they name dropped him on their first album. They must have had a nice chat on the video shoot.

The-Dream: Love King

YES. Seriously, y’all don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for something to leak off this Dream album (that was supposed to be out late last year).

Every couple weeks I’d check the likely blogs, then google “the-dream” and “love king” and come up with the same old results. But today, right when I least expected it… You might think, on first listen, that this just a more subdued ‘Rockin’ That Shit” (which was basically a more energetic “Shorty is The Shit”), but upon repeat listenings you will hear some layers of melodic nuance and lyrical play that show The-Dream is continuing to build upon his already golden formula.

Found it on The Fader first, but the link was taken down, so hear it at On Smash while you still can.

This song is pretty much exactly what you think it is – and that’s a good thing.
