If you know me well, you know I am completely hooked on fun, throwback party jams. Freestyle? New jack swing? Prince-y funk? Love it all. If you want to hear a little more of that sound in modern hip-hop and rnb, today is your lucky day. Kanye just posted a link to O’Neal McKnight’s Pre-Prom Mixtape, and it conjures up comparisons to all that retro kitsch, in addition to straight-up new-wave. O’Neal seems to have a pretty limited vocal range, but who really cares when the beats sound so fresh and he’s name-dropping characters from Saved By The Bell? Throw on your dancing shoes and prepare for a very special prom night in an ’80s teen movie.

Yeah, I have to say I did not expect that whole “Sixteen Candles” sound. I was pleasantly surprised.
