A lot of people will tell you The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is the greatest videogame of all time. I didn’t even play it until college, since I sat out the N64 in favor of Playstation (sorry, couldn’t stand those blurry anti-aliased graphics). As far as Zelda goes, I’m really more of an A Link To The Past guy myself. However, when I heard the concept behind Ocarina of Rhyme, a mix tape that sets classic hip hop vocals against classic tunes from The Ocarina of Time, I had to check it out.

Okay, so for most of these songs the concept is not enough to carry the thing, especially since the vocal choices are fairly obvious, but there are a couple tracks on here that totally kill. Pimp C’s “Knockin Doors Down” over the Hyrule Field theme is perfection, Slim Thug & Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin” over the Fairy theme rules (that song sounds good over anything), and Clipse’s “Virginia” works very well over the Lost Forest theme.

If nothing else, this is the most interesting spin on the straight “mashup” mixtape I’ve seen in a few years.
