Their self-titled album has been out since September, so if you haven’t listened to High Places you need to get downloading. The band released a collection of singles, 03/07 – 09/07 (you guessed it, in 2007) that first caught my attention. If the name isn’t reminiscent enough, I’ll have to recommend High Places’ for your more whimsical moments. Rob and Mary’s colorful collages of lyrics and sounds are like a massage for your ears. I may be speaking synaesthetically, but you’ll get it when their layers upon layers start your toe-tapping. These two have been playing together for a couple of years, and their distinct backgrounds provide an interesting collaboration. Plus, I love the recording style. Mary’s voice is just plain dreamy with that reverb. Check out their myspace to get a little taste. If you enjoy Animal Collective and Atlas Sound, you’ll dig ’em.
